The Lincoln University Students Back Again

There’s nothing we enjoy more than opening the gates and sharing what we’re up to here at Electric Cherries (especially when it’s with the next generation of Kiwi growers!) Yesterday we welcomed back Clive Kaiser and his crew of horticulture students from Lincoln University for another orchard tour. Clive has been bringing his students down to see us for a few years now, and every time it’s a highlight on our calendar. These visits are always full of good yarns, sharp questions, and plenty of curiosity about how we run the world’s first 100% electric cherry orchard here in Central Otago.

Walking through the rows, we got to show the students what makes this orchard tick: from our solar-powered systems, to the Monarch tractor, to our electric frost fighting fans that keep the trees safe on frosty spring mornings. It’s one thing to read about electrification in agriculture, but seeing it in action and standing next to the machines makes it real. For us, it’s a real privilege to share our journey with people who are just starting theirs in the horticulture world. These students are the future growers, scientists, and innovators who will shape what food production looks like in New Zealand. If our orchard can spark an idea or show them that farming differently is possible, then that’s a win in our book.

A big thanks again to Clive and the Lincoln Uni team for making the trip. It’s always a lot of fun having you here, and we can’t wait to see you again next.
